Since computers at the time were not capable of executing Turing’s program, a game was played between the program and a human adversary with each move meticulously worked out on paper to generate the first complete game of chess between a human and a program. Turing and his colleague economic statistician D.G Champernowe developed on paper the first chess program, Turochamp. After the invention of the primitive computer, the 1950’s witnessed the first formal publications on algorithmic approaches to chess emerging from the brilliant minds of renowned mathematicians, the likes of Claude Shannon and Alan Turing.
